What is A University? Part I
A more open question than you would think . . .
                    This has become like the question, what do you want to be when you grow up? because universities have been thrown, like children, back into a childlike dependence condition of crawling on their knees, some so fearful of cuts to the purse strings that they will keep trying to please people for whom capitulation is like oxygen to a fire. But it’s a question that many institutions as well as people ask themselves at different points in their existence, and there’s no time like the present for universities to ask it, in all seriousness. Who are you? Who do you want to be? How do you want to be regarded?
